Active Networking using Programmable Hardware

چکیده
A new reconfigurable active router architecture is presented in this paper. It consists of a software part and a hardware part. The software part is a set of kernel-space and user-space modules running on a linux-PC. An FPGA PCI-based board with a Virtex-1600E FPGA forms the hardware part. The integration of reconfigurable hardware into standard PC hardware allows for on-the-fly reconfigurable hardware.

متن کاملImplementation of Face Recognition Algorithm on Fields Programmable Gate Array Card
The evolution of today's application technologies requires a certain level of robustness, reliability and ease of integration. We choose the Fields Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware description language to implement the facial recognition algorithm based on "Eigen faces" using Principal Component Analysis. In this paper, we first present an overview of the PCA used for facial recognition,...
متن کاملEvolvable Internet Hardware Platforms
Network routing platforms and Internet firewalls of the next decade will be radically different than the platforms of today. They will contain modular components that can be dynamically reconfigured over the Internet. But, unlike the active networks that are in the research labs today, these new platforms will not suffer from the performance penalty of processing packets in software. These plat...

Ilija Hadzic and Jonathan M. Smith Distributed Systems Laboratory, University of Pennsylvania [email protected], [email protected] Abstract Ongoing research in adaptive protocols and active networks has presumed that exibility is o ered exclusively through software systems, and the performance implications have generated considerable skepticism. The Programmable Protocol Processing Pipeline ...
متن کاملOperating Systems Support for Programmable Cluster
As network routers evolve towards supporting ever more higher-level networking functions beyond traditional network-layer and transport-layer protocols, programmability becomes a major design issue in network device OS (NDOS), which until very recently has been based on the type of OS used in embedded systems. On the other hand, it is now possible to build high-performance Internet routers from...
